Valentine Day ~ think 'outside the box.'

Every year on February 14th, we're reminded of "love." Of course it would be nice not to have to be

reminded, but think of it as a public service message to nudge you into verbalizing that which already feel in your heart.

Of course you show love everyday in your actions and words, but for those naysayers who think it's all about chocolate and roses, I say No! Hallmark and floral companies do monopolize on this holiday, but you have many options to 'think outside the box' and be creative!

Hopefully, you know your significant other well enough to invent a personal Valentine gesture. Taking the time to reflect on him or her and what they'd appreciate most is what it's all about.
  • You can go to dinner at a her favorite restaurant, but making the effort to take 1/2 day from work to sneak home and cook a romantic dinner for two is priceless. And if you don't cook, you can pick up a great meal, a bottle of wine, bouquets of flowers and a candle.

  • Design a personal coupon book with all the things she loves from foot massage to doing the dishes that night. (Be creative).

  • Poetry scares some as they don't consider themselves to be talented writers, but poems don't have to rhyme. If you sit with a piece of stationary and just express how you feel or what lights you up about him or her, that'll be a genuine and sincere expression of love. Gifts don't have to be extravagant or expensive. It's more about making a conscious effort to personalize the gesture.

  • Perhaps a weekend getaway. Even if you only have time to book a nice room in your local area, it's a break from routines and daily chores.

  • Find a museum or park or other site that you know your significant other would be interested in and take a mysterious destination drive there.

Yes, you can follow the annual routine of picking up a card or having your secretary send flowers, but if you desire to create new results in your life, it's unlikely that doing what you've always done up until will do it.
If you're reminiscing about dreams and goals the two of you set for your lives that you've fallen short on, make a commitment to re-evaluate and rediscover those dreams!

We are all adults caught up in a responsible role of managing finances, career, the household; caring for family and ourselves, but every once in awhile we need a break to experience the freedom of having fun like we did as a child! Sometimes the most exciting and fulfilling experiences are those that are spontaneous, carefree and adventurous!

We aren't kids anymore and this isn't about shirking responsibilities, but every once in awhile you deserve a carefree day to express your happiness for having people who matter most in your life. And in turn, your expression of love helps them be happier, too.
